Goa in December: Weather, Stay, Festivals, Events & More

5 min read

Goa is on the bucket list of every traveler. It has something for everyone — trekking, camping, water sports, street shopping, and yes, of course, clubbing and partying!

It is flocked by tourists all year round, but December witnesses the maximum footfall as the weather is extremely pleasant compared to other months. It is the peak time of year when parties are in full swing and all the popular beaches are bustling with partygoers all night. Christmas and New Year's Eve are when the party spirit peaks in Goa.

If you are planning to visit Goa this December, here is everything you need to know.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Goa?

If you are a party freak, you do not want to miss the last two weeks of December. It is that time when every nook and cranny is fully decked up and you get to witness why it is called India's Nightlife Capital.

But if you are on budget travel, it is recommended to visit during December's first week. This is the time when prices are reasonable, all activities are available, and the place is bursting with excitement to welcome the New Year.

Goan Weather in December — Humidity and Temperature

You can make the most of your Goa trip in December because the weather will be in your favor. Every day is a bright sunny day — warm enough to bask in the sun but not too harsh to give you sunburns.

The average high is 33 ºC during the daytime, perfect for sitting by the beach, enjoying water activities, or taking a leisurely walk soaking in the Goan charm. At night the temperature drops to 21 ºC, and you can enjoy the nightlife with pleasant beach vibes. The average relative humidity is typically 54.2%, so it is best to pack light clothes — and don't forget sunscreen.

Getting to Goa & Where to Stay

For backpackers or anyone traveling to Goa, opting for a train can cut down travel cost and let you enjoy the charm of the Konkan region. The railway stations are well-linked to every part of the country. For a quicker option, take a flight — Dabolim Airport is 26 km from Panaji and serves domestic and international routes (AirAsia India, Air India, IndiGo and others fly from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Chennai and Pune, plus a few international destinations such as Muscat, Doha and Copenhagen). Taxi services are easily available from the airport. And for those who want to go road-tripping like the trio in Dil Chahta Hai, the national highways are extremely smooth and scenic.

If you are on a solo trip or backpacking, there are many dormitories, even air-conditioned ones. Some people prefer to sleep in beach shacks to wake up to a beautiful sunrise. You also get beach-facing resorts and hotels — but remember to book them well in advance, as these places get sold out like hotcakes.

Azara Beach House Luxury 5 BHK Villa — If you are traveling with family or friends, opt for the luxury beach villa, Azara Beach House, in Candolim. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind. The spacious 5-bedroom villa is designed with modern aesthetics and adorned with coastal hues. Located just 300 metres from Candolim Beach, you can get all the vitamin sea you need. The property is also conveniently placed to visit popular tourist spots — Fort Aguada, Sinquerim Fort, Coco Beach, and more.

Transportation

A short December weekend — say, 2 nights and 3 days — will let you experience most of Goa. If you drive your own car, commuting is hassle-free. But if you've flown in, don't worry: Goa offers convenient chauffeur-driven luxury taxi services that you can pre-book, or someone at the villa will help you get in touch with local transportation. Most services will pick you up from the airport or pretty much anywhere in Goa. For those who want to drive themselves, there are luxury self-drive cars — cruise along the picturesque beaches or the lush countryside in comfort.

Food

Goa is known for its delectable cuisine. The cost depends on where you'd like to dine — there are great options from around ₹100 per head up to ₹500 per head. Goan fish curry, or Xitti Kodi as they call it, is the staple diet of every Goan and a must-try. Other dishes to try include prawn balchão (a Goan traditional favorite), poee (a kind of bread sold in every bakery), and sorpotel (a meat dish usually eaten at breakfast). Ask the restaurant chef for suggestions to experience true Goan food.

Festivals and Events in December

Sunburn

Asia's craziest EDM festival, attracting fans from more than 30 countries. It runs for 3 days at the end of December on Vagator beach — extravagant stages, an ecstatic ambiance, and eccentric music. Ticket pricing starts around ₹3,000 and early booking is recommended.

Serendipity Arts Festival

For art aficionados, plan your trip around mid-December to witness India's largest multidisciplinary arts festival — a nine-day celebration supporting artists and creative expression from across South Asia, held in Panjim.

Shoonya — The Festival of Nothingness

For those visiting to rest and rejuvenate, this transformative experience features yoga, music, mindfulness, and eco-conscious living against the picturesque backdrop of Palolem Beach — a weekend retreat organized to harmonize mind, heart, and body.

New Year's Eve Parties & Cruises

New Year's Eve in Goa is all about eat, sleep, rave, repeat — with plenty of rave and repeat. Big psytrance parties welcome the new year with a bang, and river cruises on the Mandovi offer dance, games, food, Portuguese folk performances, and fireworks at midnight — the true Goa party experience to start the year.

As the sun-kissed beaches come alive with parties in December, the air fills with the infectious energy that defines Goa's legendary nightlife. Whether you seek the thrill of party life or simply a scenic villa to retreat to, December is the time to book your trip.
